About The Owner

Meet Wayne Martella, proud owner of AAMCO East Mesa, AZ.

Meet Wayne Martella: Your Local Mesa Car Doctor

I’ve always believed that there’s a big difference between just fixing a machine and truly taking care of a neighbor. My name is Wayne Martella, and for the last 48 years, I’ve dedicated my life to the automotive industry. Today, as the owner of AAMCO Mesa, I use every bit of that experience to ensure that when you bring your vehicle to us, you’re getting more than just a repair, you’re getting peace of mind.

From Pennsylvania Hot Rods to Factory Training

My journey started back in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I grew up in a family of building contractors, but while everyone else was focused on the structures we were building, I was always more interested in the equipment that got us there. I found my true passion in high school while working on my first car, a 1965 Ford Falcon Sprint. Building hot rods taught me that I didn’t just want to drive cars; I wanted to understand exactly how every gear and bolt worked together.

That passion led me through technical school and advanced training at Ford and Dodge factories. Over the decades, I’ve held a PA State inspection license and ASE certifications, and I’ve transitioned from being an auto technician in the late 70s to managing and eventually owning my own shops. While I’ve owned as many as seven locations over the years, my focus has always remained on specializing in what I do best: transmissions and complex total car care.

A Brush with Hollywood History

One of the highlights of my career happened right here in the Phoenix area. We were once tasked with repairing the famous Shaggy Dog Van from the movie Dumb & Dumber when its transmission gave out during a local premiere. Whether it’s a piece of movie history or your family’s daily driver, we treat every vehicle with the same level of precision and care.

The "Car Doctor" Philosophy

I know that car repairs can be stressful, especially if you aren’t familiar with what’s happening under the hood. That’s why I see myself as a car doctor. My team and I build trust by listening first. We take the time to explain the how and the why of a repair slowly and thoroughly. We want to take the hassle out of the process and make sure you feel confident when you get back on the road.

Rooted in the Mesa Community

Mesa is more than just where my business is located; it’s my home. The sunshine and warm weather brought me to Arizona, and the community is why I stayed. I’m an active member of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce and serve on the advisory board for the East Valley Vocational School Auto Group. I’m also proud to mentor the next generation of technicians at Mesa High School career days. You’ll often see us co-sponsoring local events like Country Thunder, car shows, and golf tournaments because we believe in supporting the community that supports us.

Life Beyond the Shop

When I’m not at the shop, I’m usually staying active outdoors, whether it’s Spartan racing, trail running, motorcycling, or heading out for some skiing or surfing.

Thank you for trusting us with your vehicle. We look forward to seeing you at the shop and showing you why experience and local care make all the difference at AAMCO Mesa.
